UK
housebuilder, Crest Nicholson, has commenced construction of the
long-awaited Redhouse Village Centre. In April 2007, construction
and fitting of a ‘Smile’ convenience store will begin,
ready to open in early summer alongside a hairdressers, Chinese
takeaway, and fish and chip shop. The second phase of the Village
Centre will also see the arrival of further outlets, residential
homes and retail units. Chris Cain, Development Manager from Crest
Nicholson, envisages the centre will be complete in three years,
depending on market conditions.
"We
are confident people will be able to shop at this first-stage of
retail outlets in early summer 2007," said Chris. "At
this time, we will also start work on the next phase."
Chris
has commenced discussions with a church regarding a place of worship
at a designated site within the Village Centre. He is also in discussion
with two pub operators for the second phase. However, provisional
plans for a medical centre are currently on hold: "Opening
a medical centre is dependent on the number of people living in
the surrounding area. Although Priory Vale continues to grow, the
population was not yet felt to be large enough to warrant a medical
centre. Naturally, this may change in the future."
While
designs for the Village Centre are currently subject to planning
consent, Chris confirmed that one of the next phases will involving
creating a large square next to the Learning Campus, complete with
attractive landscaping and tree-lined areas.
"Everyone living in Priory Vale will enjoy the convenience
of shopping within the Redhouse Village Centre," said Chris.
"This is the first chapter and we're looking forward to seeing
the area take shape over the next three years."
