Anyone
can come forward to establish a new school.
Proposers might include community and residents
groups, parents groups, charitable companies,
voluntary groups, existing schools or a
consortia of schools.
Proposers of the school will be responsible
for appointing a governing body but the
Local Authority, in most cases, will retain
responsibility for financing the school.
The competition is your chance to have a
say so that the new school meets the needs
of your community.
An independent organisation, OPM, has been
commissioned by the Department for Children,
Schools and Families to offer help and support
in submitting a proposal. Groups do not
need to provide any funding.
OPM would like to invite interested parties
to attend a briefing seminar to learn more
about proposing a new school and to explain
the process in more detail. The date will
be confirmed shortly but will be at the
end of July, and it will be in the evening,
in Swindon.
Details are available on the DCSF website:
http://www.dfes.gov.uk/schoolscommissioner/new-school.shtml
If you wish to attend the seminar, find
out when the date is confirmed, or get more
information, please contact Sarah McDonnell
on smcdonnell@opm.co.uk / 020 7239 7804.
